Spirit Guard Udyr Analysis

Analysis of Spirit Guard Udyr lore video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvV4hGdByJI&feature=youtu.be
Is the video for the interactive comic you could view upon logging in.

Watching this gave me shivers, and I cannot wait to see more lore related things coming from Riot from now on.

Anyways, I'm here to break down the comic page-by-page, panel-by-panel, and give insight into what this new information could mean for Ionia, and this one is gonna be pretty long, so sorry in advance.

First Page

"When rage is beyond your control...like fire, it will consume everything in its path..."
"But here among the monks...I have become something greater than myself...I have conquered my Rage."

Scary stuff we have here. The first panel we have shows a large flame burning in a temple that seems very old. There's a weathered curtain flowing in the wind, and the stone of the temple has seen better days. The upstairs lights are also on, but I think that's more for aesthetics. The second panel, we zoom in on the silhouette we saw earlier, and it is a meditating Udyr, to no surprise really. The third panel is just a badass closeup, until it zooms out to show a four eyed demonic monster watching Udyr.

Second Page

"I have become one with the four eternal spirits that protected this temple ages ago."
"Through me, the spirits still guard this place..."
"From the nightmares that seek to claim this temple's power as their own."

The first panel gives us a better look at the stalker. He's a red demon type monster with horns, gnarly teeth and claws, and interestingly enough, wearing the same beads around his neck that Udyr does. Our second and third panels are of Udyr noticing the beast, and awakening from his meditation. The third panel not only introduces the fact that these demon creatures seek to claim the temple, but also reveals that our monster was once perhaps human, due to his anatomy, and his monk like clothing.

Third Page

"I am the Tiger" *Meow*

Starts out as one panel of the monster leaping at Udyr, and you dragging his claw to knock the nerd into oblivion. If we do notice the monster's clothes again, though, I think it becomes very apparent that he was once human.

Fourth Page

"Swift. Fierce. Lord of all Beasts."

Just an absolutely amazing 3 panels of Udyr hacking and slashing at our intruder. Once again, great job, Riot.

Fifth Page

"If this temple were to fall...A great darkness would be awakened and overtake all of Runeterra..."
"So I will protect it at any cost."

Woah. Runeterra? Udyr says the secret to this temple threatens the entirety of Runeterra. Keep in mind that Ionia is a small island to the north of Valoran, and this secret threatens Runeterra? Udyr is even willing to do anything to stop these monsters.

Sixth Page

"Your numbers mean nothing..."
"I am the Turtle!!! The wise protector and preserver of life!"

Just how many of these guys are there, I wonder? Our first panel here also introduces another monster. These creatures seem to be blue in color, have two eyes, and share the same crazy claws and teeth as our red buddy. While the other one was nearly hairless, however, this one seems to have a large head of white hair, long tails, and run on all four's. If our first monster used to be human, these seem very animal like when compared....The third panel actually expands to show Udyr going turtle, and knocking the monsters back.

Seventh Page

"I am more than a mere man..."
"I am the Bear!!! The unyielding avatar of force!"

The first panel, one of the beast bites Udyr on the neck, and he throws him off of him in the second panel, like a boss. The third panel expands into Udyr going Bear form, and dunking one of the blue beasts into the temple, making stone fly.

Eighth Page

"I am the Phoenix!!! The ancient redeemer and purifier!"

Our first panel shows that at least one of the beasts has chains around his wrists. What was he locked away for? Was he held captive while in this form, or before? Our next two panels are just Udyr going phoenix mode and bursting them into flames, actually really cool.

Ninth Page

"With their strength, I fear nothing..."

Alright, Udyr, nothing? Anyways, our first panel here shows the beasts from before are defeated. Everything seems cool until the ground starts to actually crack beneath Udyr's feet in the second panel.

Tenth Page

"For though the world may stand against me..."

First panel shows udyr getting thrown into the air, second panel shows his 10/10 landing to face what comes next. In the third panel, we're introduced to yet another monster...This one resembling some sort of undead wind/lightning dragon...thing. Keep in mind that by this point, Udyr's temple is trashed...This dragon also appears to be animated by some sort of magic, it seems like. He has parts that are bone, but they're all connected by what seems to be a violent tornado.

Eleventh Page

"I am never, truly alone!"

Udyr leaping at the new enemy, and showcasing his four stances, not much else to talk about here, other than how freaking cool it just looks.

Man, you thought I was over?

This video raises so many questions! Why does Riot keep doing this!
Why does the first monster have 4 eyes, wear monk clothes, and have the same beads around his neck that Udyr does? Is it because this is what happened to the rest of the people in Udyr's temple? Why is he alone? His lore specifically says he was brought in by other monks, so where are they? Why does the second, beast like creature have chains on his wrists? What did they used to be, if the red monsters were humans? What the bajeebus is so important about these Ionian temples, and their fires? Varus was once a guardian of an Ionian temple until he became corrupted by the black flame he vowed to protect. Is that dragon the leader of what seeks to control this temple? Or is he some ancient spirit that was revived to rival the powers of the four ancient spirits that Udyr now possesses? What has Udyr done before he became a monk? "When rage is beyond your control, like fire, it will consume everything in its path. But here, among the monks, I have conquered my rage"

All I can say is, Great job to Riot, and I absolutely cannot wait for more. :)
