Might want to have a map up for the beginning part of this, or just take my word for it. Keep in mind that this post is a mixture of my thoughts/hypotheses and official Riot lore. I'll do my best to bold the important parts, but stay with me on this, it's gonna' be a long one.
Long ago, three tribes inhabited Mount Targon in peace with one another(Their version of peace, at least). The Solari, the highest ranking, dwelled at the very tip of Mount Targon, which was the closest to the sun. The Rakkor, mostly unimportant for the sake of the story I'm telling today, were lower down the mountain, but still well above the clouds. Finally, the Lunari resided alongside the Solari close to the top of the mountain. Diana's lore comic shows the two symbols of the Lunari and Solari combined, strengthening the ideaEast of Mount Targon lies the Guardian Sea, and at its shores, Icathia. Icathia is seen as a portal to the Void, and this is supported by many lore quotes, with the best one being: "The lost city called Icathia seems to be connected to the void, as some voidborn are known to have appeared in the place and some mortals are known to have gained the void's power in it".
Alright, so that's a small part of the map figured out, let's get the second half I need for this. Nami's lore emphasizes the fact that her tribe, the Marai need a Moonstone every 100 years to "ward off the terrors of the depths". To get this moonstone (Which is rumored to be found at the highest peak of Valoran)a chosen Marai must travel into the depths, "battle with untold horrors", and retrieve an Abyssal Pearl. Kog'Maw, the Mouth of the Abyss. If this doesn't scream void to you, then I don't know what will. So Nami's people, the Marai reside off the shoreline of Icathia. I could stop here, but I want to drag Fizz into this as well. Fizz's lore states that "an ancient water-dwelling race built a hidden city beneath a mountain in the sea."Assuming that fizz's kind have ties to the yordles, I believe this mountain to have been the Sablestone Mountains, and more importantly, the side of the mountains that touch the Guardian Sea, that is parallel with Bilgewater, and is also smack-dab next to where we just placed Nami's home. Well, why is this important? Fizz's lore states that his people became complacent due to the safety of their home, but one day, Fizz returns and his home is in ruins with not a soul in sight. What I believe happened here, is that the Marai were the reason that Fizz's kind were kept safe the whole time, and not the fact that it was a fortress. What kind of "Impenetrable fortress" falls to ruins in the time it takes Fizz to go on one adventure? While the beta site lists Fizz and Nami as friends, it doesn't add anything new to the story.
Anywho, centuries of trading Pearls for Stones passes, and a collection of the Pearls are discovered by the Solari. The Solari worship the sun, and strive to be closest to the sun as possible. These Pearls contain pure darkness taken from the very depths of the void. Possession of the Pearls is seen as a herecy by the Solari, and they slaughter all but two of the Lunari. The two Lunari that escaped, unknown by the Solari, were actually Diana's parents. This might seem like a stretch, but some of the Lunari had to survive the genocide. How else would a book containing the way of the Lunari find its way in the archives of the Solari? Why would there be a mural portraying the true past of the two tribes left with a set of Lunari armor and weapon? You could argue that someone from the Rakkor tribe did it, but there's really nothing to support that, and the fact that Diana grew up as an acolyte of the Solari, with such a strong draw to the moon, is what makes me believe that the escaped Lunari were her parents who had ties with a high ranking Solari. This Solari kept the identity of her parents unknown to the rest of the Solari, which explains the line in Diana's lore saying that she was born to the Solari.
Tl;dr The sun bros got mad at the moon bros for having crazy voidbeads that they got from talking fish people. Sun bros kill the moon bros, and because of this, talking fish people are most likely dead too...:(
Also, if we assume that I'm correct about 80% of the above stuff, we can get into some of my more interesting hypotheses behind Nautilus, and why he's related to Amumu, and a far-fetched idea tying Lulu to the Void. However, this is already too long :3
